The first month of the new year is half way gone! Hard to believe, isn't it?
In the school libraries we are happy to see books being checked out by the students. We are even happier when they return. Several students have books that are l-o-n-g overdue! Remember another book CAN NOT be checked out until overdue books are returned. If you have lost the book, please pay its cost to replace it.
In looking ahead, there will be a Book Fair at the Middle School during the week of March 10th. This is the same time as Parent-Teacher Conferences. I know, March is 3 months away! But I'm pumped up for a book fair. Aren't you?!?
The Preschool classes are visiting the elementary library and checking out books. In December they checked out a book but kept it in their classroom. Now, each month, they will check out a book to take home to share with their family. The due date is written on the book for when it is to be returned - usually in one week.
The Fourth Graders are listening to the audio book "Alida's Song" by Gary Paulsen. Gary Paulsen has written both fiction and nonfiction books. His works are popular with upper elementary to older and many deal with nature, the out-of-doors, or coming of age. Gary Paulsen Info My purpose is to introduce the author Gary Paulsen via a different way of "reading" a book.
This past week and next week, kindergarten through Third Graders will learn about Martin Luther King, JR All will listen to a story and discuss, but some will glean more information using an AEA online resource (BookFlix) or other website. First graders will decorate their MLK picture outline with words that describe this leader as their after story project. My plan is to gather information from the text given and then be able to put that info into our own words and ideas.
As always, if you have any questions please contact me at the school.

WH K-12 Teacher Librarian
