13-OCT: [Day 3]
3-Bruns: We will listen to Jeepers Creepers: A Monstrous ABC, written and illustrated by Laura Leuck and review the arrangement order of Easy (Everybody), Fiction, Nonfiction, and Biography books on the shelves by completing Lesson 1.
NOTE: Easy/Everybody book are picture books. While there are many pretty illustrations the text may not be readable or understandable for beginning readers. These books make perfect "read aloud" books. Fiction books are those made up stories and can be realistic or fantasy in nature. Nonfiction, of course, would then be books that contain facts. Biographies are true stories written about another person. An autobiography is a true story you write about yourself.
15-OCT: [Day 5]
K-Geelan: Kindergartners will be introduced to the ABC arrangement of fiction books. We will do an ABC activity during class. We will also review arrangement of nonfiction books.
2-Glawe: We will watch and discuss a DVD of the book The Girl Who Hated Books by Manjusha Pawagi and illustrated by Leanne Franson.
I will be back in WH on Friday, 23-OCT. That is a Day 5 again; so I will have classes with K-Geelan and 2-Glawe.
In the HS LMC we have added about 50 new fiction and nonfiction books to our collection since the start of school! We have cut our magazine subscriptions to 13 titles. But one new magazine that was added this year is Iowa History Journal. It is about known and not-so-well known Iowans and is published here in Iowa. You can also visit their website at http://www.iowahistoryjournal.com/. We also subscribe to 2 magazines written in Spanish. They are Hispanic and People en Espanol. We subscribe to 4 different newspapers. Parents and community members of Britt and Kanawha are always welcome to visit our school library media centers!
MAP testing has been completed.
